Host Town Program

Host Town Program is a unique non-sport program in the Special Olympics World Games.Just before the opening of the Special Olympics World Games, this program will, over a period of 3 to 4 days, motivate community residents in related cities, the purpose being to arrange accommodation for athletes and coaches from all over the world in community hotels, and to organize profuse and vibrant community entertainment and sports events for them.During the Host Town Program, local residents will open up their doors, as well as their hearts, and offer delegates from all countries the warmest reception and care possible, driven by Chinese-style enthusiasm.By means of the Host Town Program, many athletes who are in China for the first time will fully feel the appeal of Chinese traditional culture, enjoy China’s beautiful urban scenes and delicious Chinese food, and witness the colorful lives of Chinese citizens. Their friendship with Chinese people will thus be enhanced, and they will succeed in taking home with them their most memorable experience ever.

The Host Town Program of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games will be implemented from September 28 to October 1, 2007. Nearly ten thousand foreign Special Olympics delegation members from more than 160 countries and regions throughout the world will be welcomed simultaneously by more than 150 sub-districts and towns in Shanghai’s 19 districts and counties, as well as communities in 11 cities including Beijing, Xi’an, Harbin, Guangzhou, Dalian, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Hangzhou, Wenzhou, and Jiaxing.
